Tim Keller has written a book entitled, The Reason for God, Belief in an Age of Skepticism. It comes out on February 14, 2008. It is written to non-Christians. This will be an important book for Sojourners to wade through, take notes on, and loan to a spiritual friend.

“By year 300 AD, 50% of the urban populations of the Roman empire were Christian, while over 90% of the countryside was still pagan. (Note: Some believe that the very word ’pagan’ comes from the Greek paganus meaning a farmer or man of the country.) Because Christianity captured the cities, it eventually captured the society, as must always be the case. What captivates the cities also captivates the arts, media, scholarship and the professions. Cities are the ’culture-forming wombs’ of the society, made by God to be so.”

Here’s an article from Tim Keller, written in 1991, on How You Can Know God.
He points out that
“Many of us avoid the yawning emptiness through busyness or denial, but at best there is just a postponement” …. and goes on to argue there several ways to respond to this:
By blaming the things themselves – by finding fault in everyone and everything around you. You believe that a better spouse, a better career, a better boss or salary would finally yield the elusive joy. Many of the most successful people of the world are like this – bored, discontented, running from new thing to new thing, often changing counselors, mates, partners, or settings.
