This week I was driving down a busy road on a cold day and saw an apparently homeless man walking down the street. He had no coat and was wearing an trash bag over his short-sleeve shirt in an attempt to stay warm. The flow of traffic would not permit me to stop and there was no place to park - otherwise I was sorely tempted to give him my coat. That night I told Debbie that I might be coming home without my coat one day. She asked why, and I explained what happened.
Then my jewel of a wife had a brilliant idea. Why not keep a couple of my old coats (that I hardly every wear anymore) in my car during this winter, as a ready supply in case I’m confronted with the same situation? Great idea!
And now I’m ready if I have the same opportunity (next time, I’ll slow down and toss him a coat if I can’t stop.)
A great idea … food for thought.
