Last Journey Group we watched a very interesting video titled the Star of Bethlehem ideated by Frederick Larson. Larson provides astronomical evidence for the Star of Bethlehem in the night sky ~2000 years ago and you can see his website here.

I’ve been doing some internet research since watching that video, learning about what other folks have said and other research performed. I have read some interesting opinions and I have come away with some interesting (to me) observations. Honestly, for the most part I’m disappointed in the lack of credible truth I am finding out there. There is much interpreting of facts to fit into someone’s worldview (aka eisegesis) rather than allowing the facts/truth to mold someone’s worldview (aka exegesis). And this “cramming the facts into my worldview” spreads across the board, for “irreligious” people and “religious” people and “Christian” people.

Whenever I tell my friends and family about my wife’s and my new hometown of Huntsville, I share with them all kinds of great things about this big town (or small city depending on your perspective). However, to let them know how “grounded” I am, I do tell them my top 3 things Huntsville needs to become perfect. I even tell this to potential new hires I am trying to relocate to Huntsville from Michigan, or California, or DC. And #1 on Rich’s list of what Huntsville needs, a Chipotle Mexican Grill.

So I think I’ll miss Sunday to go check out the Huntsville Air Show. Golden Knights Army parachuters at 12 noon and Blue Angels at 3.

I desire some constructive Scriptural criticism here. This spring I managed a new soccer team in the Huntsville Adult Soccer League (www.hasl.org). It’s a great organization with 4 divisions and about 6 teams in each division. I love it that our city has a soccer community like this.

I co-worker friend of mine (thanks Jon) pointed me to the following videos on YouTube.

While I can appreciate the stereotypes, one of my first responses is the authors are trading the “Holier Than Thou” attitude of some Christian cultures with a “More Authentic Than Thou” attitude of some Christ-follower cultures. Both attitudes point to a fallen human for reference, when we need to pointing to Jesus.

Backstory: Last summer we thought our dog Rigley had developed food allergies. Turns out after a few vet visits to a couple different vets, we all figured out it was some funky virus, but nonetheless the experience provided me with the opportunity to learn about dog food ingredients.

Rather than jacking Billy’s “Personal Savior only, or Savior of us all?” blog and Eric’s “Ferguson on the Prayer of Faith” blog with another bunny trail, I started this new one. But reading through each one of those, I was thinking something similar to the question Ferguson asks “would we rather devise our own spirituality (preferably spectacular) than God’s (frequently modest)?”
