The below is a memo I created for my family’s company, Oral Arts Dental Laboratories. This memo was inspired from a local C12 Group meeting. C12, www.c12group.com , is an organization dedicated to the training and development of Christian CEO’s in the marketplace. I have been a member of C12 for only 2 months but involved for over one year and i recommend it to any business owner reading this who is interested in growing professionally and personally in glorification of Christ.
At this special time of year, when many people become a little more introspective than usual, I thought it fitting to write a note to all of you expressing some of my personal thoughts.
I challenge you to do a yearly audit of yourself, not unlike a company might do. Think about what really matters in your life and why you are even living at all. The items below might provoke positive changes for you and those around you for 2007.
1. Did your relationship with God, or whatever your source for spiritual food may be, did it grow?
2. Did your relationships with your family improve? Were you able to spend more time with your spouse and your children? If so, you had a good year.
3. Did you spend more time listening and relating to the key people in your life? If so, you had a good year.
4. You had a good year if you were less acquisitive than you were last year, and saw things for what they really are, just things. Not that things are bad, but you get my point.
5. You had a good year if you were more thankful for what you have than you were last year. Visit a foreign country, you will instantly be thankful.
6. You had a good year if you experienced more internal peace and contentment than you did last year.
7. You had a good year if you know more about your profession now than you did last year.
8. You had a good year if you took better care of you body than you did last year.
As people, we all fail miserably in reaching our true potential, it’s just part of being human. Each of us with just a little more effort could be so much more effective in each of the areas highlighted above. Our lives are a constant act of juggling, as we try to balance the most important things, with the things that must get done. Take some time now to re-focus and determine how it is you will spend your time in 2007.
I encourage you all to ponder on these words: Discipline, Focus, Intentions vs. Accomplishment, Balance, Relationships, Time usage and waste, Serving, Know Thy Self, Perception vs. Reality, Motivation, and Consistency.
Well I truly hope you had a good year and that 2007 will be even better. Thanks again.
Yours,
matt winstead
