I just finished a week of “Fat Loss BootCamp”, an idea concocted by Graeme Street, a nutritionist and cycling trainer on his website, www.Cyclo-Club.com. It was a difficult week (a few of you heard me complaining about it mid-week!), but the results have come. My cycling jerseys are noticeably looser after just 7 days. Some of the new theory of exercise that’s out there is incredibly good stuff, combining nutrition and exercise to meet specific goals. The crux of this week was to decrease carbohydrate intake by specific amounts, while performing workouts geared at depleting muscle glycogen stores. This type of training/nutrition plan is supposed to improve your body’s ability to use stored fat during exercise. The fun thing about it is that many times a week of being very hard on yourself nutritionally can lead to more healthy eating habits - but, as I’ve said before, we have to be careful not to get into the “diet” mentality. The goal is to eat wholesome foods - not to be a nazi about your calorie intake.
Man, let’s learn to take care of the bodies God has given us, so we can enjoy His journey even more!!

Cindy, Congrats on your
Cindy,
Congrats on your success. As you hinted, it’s important to never be on a diet, but have a lifestyle of healthy living/eating. I’m usually skeptical of the long-term benefits of a “boot camp” style program, but if it worked for you then congrats.
That’s also an interesting theory of combining vigorous exercise with low carb intake to increase your muscles’ capacities to burn fat. The idea makes sense. I think most low-carb plans are hooey, because you simply can’t support frequent and vigorous exercise without carbs, but doing a short-term plan like with a specific purpose makes sense.
yeah - definitely short
yeah - definitely short term- that’s all I can take the low carb thing for. Leaves you feeling pretty blah by the end of the week on the workouts (and at all other times for that matter!), but after your glycogen tanks are refilled, you feel great! The big thing I’ve decided to change is not eating so many simple carbs at night - cereal for dinner is now out!! except for the occasional treat… :-)
